• First, you open your friend’s social media to check whether they have posted anything over the past few hours. They haven’t.
  • Then you call their real number. It’s turned off! Is it possible they are really stuck in another city without their phone?
  • Then you check their location on Snap Map and see that they are in fact in your city!
  • Now you’re almost certain it’s a scam so you stop replying and don’t send the money.
  • A few minutes later, your friend posts on social media from home and message you to say thank you they missed your call. They have NO idea what you’re talking about when you ask about the situation. It turns out they were never stuck!
  • 🎉 You made a safer choice! Taking time to verify information is a responsible thing to do.
  • 🤔 Lesson: Scammers might try to rush you because they don’t want you to think. Taking a few minutes to verify information can save you from losing money.
